PS4 System Software Update 9.60 Patch Notes Today (PS5 22.01-05.10)

The new PlayStation updates arriving today can be downloaded and installed now as part of the latest round of PS4 and PS5 Sony system software fixes.

Firmware version 9.60 for PS4 has been associated with the release of version 22.01-05.10 on PlayStation 5 consoles, both weighing in at different sizes.

But while one will take a bit longer to download and install, both seem to be very similar in their goals for the Sony ecosystem. Here’s what we know so far about the current PlayStation patch releases for the PS4 and PS5 consoles and systems.

While new trophy options and a Game Base overhaul were released last month by Sony as part of its latest feature launch, May’s first major system patch looks to be a lot less exciting. The new update is rolling out and will go live from region to region throughout the day.

Sony has provided a list of patch notes for today’s release, but as in the past, they’ve kept the details to a minimum. While some updates warrant big notes listing everything that’s changed, the May 12 list is more low-key and offers a little tidbit for fans to follow:

Unless there are significant issues reported by console users, this seems to be the only news we will receive regarding the worldwide launch of the PlayStation 4 today.

PS5 UPDATE 22.01-05.10

It’s a similar story when it comes to today’s PS5 system software, with Sony listing these items as part of the official patch notes:

Last month, Sony also began rolling out its new Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support on PS5, limited to HDMI 2.1 VRR-enabled TVs and PC monitors. For those who may not have encountered it before, VRR dynamically syncs the display refresh rate with the graphics output of the PS5 console, a feature that already exists on other platforms. Sony says VRR improves visual performance in PS5 games, but is only available in select titles at this time.
