Hummer EV software update adds 6 inches of ground clearance
GMC increased the ride height of the Hummer EV with an over-the-air software update.
The update unlocks a new feature on the electric pickup called “Extract Mode”. Once installed, the Hummer can be raised “nearly 6 inches above normal ride height,” which is achieved using the vehicle’s Air Ride adaptive suspension system.
Extract mode is not something GMC expects you to use often. It is available to help overcome obstacles off-road and is limited to low speeds. Until now, available ground clearance was a maximum of 11.9 inches in Terrain mode, but Extraction mode extends that to 15.9 inches.
The new mode also means many other off-road specs improve. Approach angle is now up to 49.7 degrees (previously 44.3 degrees), departure angle 38.4 degrees (previously 33.7 degrees), rollover angle 32.3 degrees (previously 25.4 degrees) and wading 32 inches (previously 28 inches).
To activate the extraction mode(Opens in a new window), locate the ride height controls on the driver mode control dial on the center console, select Terrain mode by rotating the dial and press the Raise button. Extract Mode should appear on the Driver Information Center, but it may take several button presses before it appears. To go back, press the bottom button instead.

GMC warns that frequent use of the air suspension system may require a cool down period before you can get back on the road.
