Not only did the PS5 receive a brand new firmware update earlier today (May 12), but PS4 users also have a brand new patch to download before they can continue using the console online.

It’s been a busy week for PlayStation users, as the PS3 and PS Vita also received new system updates just a few days ago. Unfortunately, the updates weren’t well received by fans. Since the PS3 upgraded to version 4.89, players are now required to create new accounts through a mobile device or computer, instead of directly on the console. The same goes for PS Vita users.

There’s also not much to get excited about with the latest PS4 system update, as it just seems to improve system performance.

What’s new in today’s PlayStation 4 update?

As mentioned earlier, there are no new features included in today’s update. Players will be prompted to download the latest update the next time they turn on their console and will not be able to use network features until they do.

The update comes in at the usual size of around 900MB and just improves system performance. But for more details, check out the official console patch notes later in this article.

Sony officially rolled out a brand new system software update for the PS5 on Thursday, May 12, which once again simply improves the system performance of the console.

It’s not just the PlayStation 5 that got a brand new update this week either. Fans have been rather puzzled after the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita received new updates a few days ago, with some rather questionable changes in the patch.

The update, which brought the PS3 to version 4.89, gave the console’s account management section a shot. Since the last system software update, players could no longer create new accounts directly from their PS3 or PS Vita. Instead, they would be forced to use a computer or mobile device.

Luckily, the latest PS5 update on May 12 doesn’t bring any major changes and is instead another standard fix.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much to say, as the update simply improves system performance. Although I don’t think any of us have ever seen any drastic improvements after these fixes.

When the new Model S was introduced in 2021, it was supposed to come with a 17-inch tilting center display.

Although the original plan was to offer a tilting screen, the screens of the new Model S and Model X have remained fixed so far.

There is currently no way to tilt the screen, manually or automatically. However, it looks like Tesla is currently testing an update that activates servos that tilt the large central display.

However, not all vehicles are equipped with the motor to move the display. Tesla only recently started including all the necessary hardware. It’s unclear if Tesla will provide a retrofit for older vehicles. For vehicles with the required hardware, an upcoming update should allow it to be controlled via the UI.

Twitter user @TeslaFrunk just posted a video showing the display tilting left, center, then right.

It looks like display rotation will be done by pressing a new button added to the commands menu.

The new button appears to be called “Display” and replaces the Glovebox button. Pressing the button, you are presented with three options, left, center or right.

If you press the desired direction, the display will slowly move to the desired position. It doesn’t seem like something you’d change just to use the screen for a while, more of a personal preference.

The glove box button appears to have moved to the lower right corner where neutral was, and neutral has been moved to the bottom of the Auto Shift column which allows you to shift your vehicle while driving, in reverse or parked.

There is no word on what version of software this vehicle is running, but it is likely an early access release or internal software only.

Some drivers like having the screen in the center, giving equal access to the driver and passenger, while others would prefer it to face the driver.

This is a welcome option that gives owners more flexibility in using their car.

It would be nice if Tesla also offered an option to automatically tilt the screen towards the driver if there’s only one person in the vehicle or keep it centered if there’s someone in the driver’s seat. passenger.

Software update 2022.16 is just around the corner. Will this be included in it? We should know soon.

MCU2 compared to MCU 3

Tesla hacker and Twitter user @greentheonly speculated that it will not be possible to retrofit Teslas current MCU 2 (Media Control Unit) using Intel chips with the new and improved Ryzen processor used in MCU 3.

Upon close inspection of the internals of a new Model Y, Green said “retrofitting Intel cars definitely seems impossible – totally different horsepower and other unit beams and thicknesses.”

The news has not been confirmed or denied by Tesla or its CEO, Elon Musk, but if true, it would most certainly disappoint many MCU2 vehicle owners, who expected to be offered the opportunity. an upgrade, in the same way current MCU1 owners can upgrade their chips for a fee of $2,000 (plus tax).

MCU (Media Control Unit) is the computer controlling Tesla’s touch screen, processors, RAM (short term memory), nonvolatile memory (long term memory), audio subsystem, 5 amplifiers, WiFi, Cellular, Bluetooth, GPS, Ethernet bridge, several CAN bus communications, LIN bus, USB ports and many more.

It handles all software operations except for full self-driving/autopilot, which are unaffected by the version of MCU a Tesla is equipped with. All Teslas built after November 2016 are capable of fully autonomous driving.

MCU2 was released in Spring 2018 (Fall 2017 for Model 3) as an upgrade to the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor present in MCU1. All cars delivered after this date benefited from the improved responsiveness and additional features that come with the Intel Atom E8000 Series processor.

From a technical point of view, the two chips had completely different architectures. The release of the V10 software update highlighted the differences, as MCU1 owners were locked out of both Tesla Theater and Tesla Arcade. This is because MCU1 does not support Netflix, Hulu, YouTube or any other streaming services that may be added in the future. It also does not support any of the games added by Tesla. Moreover, the web browser on MCU2 is much faster and more capable as it is built on Google’s Chromium platform.

In the summer of 2021, Tesla launched the redesigned Model S with a more powerful infotainment processor MCU. At the time, no one knew if this was Tesla’s next-gen MCU or if it would carry over to other models.

Then, at the end of 2021, the first news of a new generation of Tesla MCU chips began to flood the web, with reports from China that a new AMD Ryzen-based computer was present in newly shipped Model Ys.

The new MCU is faster and brings noticeable improvements in responsiveness in the web browser, as well as when using video streaming services, such as Netflix and YouTube.

Model 3 and Model Y can gain rear screen for entertainment

It looks like the new Model 3 and Model Y will soon get a secondary screen. In a recent tweet from @greentheonlynewer Model 3 and Model Y models with AMD processors have been discovered to have second-screen capabilities.

The connectors on the circuit board of the AMD-powered Model 3/Y indicate that it has a connector to power a “2nd display”. It is possible that the second screen is at the rear of the car like the new Model S and Model X.

The new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles have a circuit board similar to the Model S and Model X, but they’re not identical, so it’s not just Tesla sharing parts between the two cars and leaving the 2nd display port remains unused.

According to Green, a similar situation has occurred before, where the Model Y PCB had unused USB3 ports which were later populated in later revisions.

It’s possible that Tesla will add a rear display to the Model 3 and Model Y as it becomes a big selling point for Tesla.

The rear display gives you convenient features such as the ability to turn on the rear seat heating and adjust the cabin temperature. It also lets you manage in-vehicle music as well as some additional entertainment options like playing games and streaming movies from Netflix, Disney+ and more.

And while games and movies on the vehicle’s main screen can only be used while parked, on the rear screen your passengers are invited to watch movies on the way to their destination.

This is a neat feature and would actually cost Tesla little to add since the 8″ display is powered by the same hardware as the center display.

Alternatively, it is possible, but unlikely, that the second connector will be used for an instrument cluster display including speedometer, temperature, GPS and battery information behind the steering wheel.

PlayStation has released a new system software update for the PlayStation 5, version: 22.01-05.02.00. Compared to the PS5 system software update at the end of March, the latter appears to be a relatively minor update that “improves system performance” and nothing else. Also, while it was previously noted that a PS5 system software update in 2022 would add variable refresh rate (VRR), it doesn’t appear to have been included in this specific update to the PS5. system software.

“We’re also excited to announce that Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is set to release on PS5 in the coming months,” said Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president, Platform Experience, in late March. “On HDMI 2.1 compatible TVs and PC monitors, VRR dynamically synchronizes the display refresh rate with the graphics output of the PS5 console. This improves the visual performance of PS5 games by minimizing or eliminating visual artifacts, such as than frame pacing issues and screen tearing.Gameplay in many PS5 titles is smoother as scenes are rendered instantly, graphics are crisper, and input lag is reduced.Previously released PS5 games may be fully optimized for VRR via game patch and future games may include VRR support at launch.

While PlayStation Network and PlayStation Plus have encountered issues following previous system software updates for the PS5 and PS4, it seems unlikely that history will repeat itself today given the relatively minor update. After all, the full patch notes for PS5 system software update version 22.01-05.02.00 read: “This system software update improves system performance.”

As noted above, the new PlayStation 5 system software update version 22.01-05.02.00 is now available and will likely automatically install overnight for most people. The PlayStation 5 itself is now available with the version containing a disc drive running at $499 while the all-digital console costs $399, assuming you can find either in stock. You can check out all of our previous PlayStation 5 coverage here.

Have you had any trouble installing the new PlayStation 5 system software update? Are you looking forward to the next PS5 VRR update? Let us know in the comments, or feel free to hit me up and hit me up directly on Twitter at @rollinbishop to talk about all things gaming!

PS4 System Software Update 9.51

  • This system software update improves system performance.

That’s all that’s been posted regarding today’s PS4 update, and while more news may be shared in the future, it seems unlikely we’ll hear more unless there are issues. important are reported by console users.

After v11 software complaints, Tesla’s latest v12.1 update makes it easier to use the heater controls again and provides some nice browser upgrades.

You’re here has a software update being rolled out to cars worldwide that fixes an issue caused by the previous version. The problem was that the heating controls became much more difficult to access. This is resolved after the last update, which is a relief, although the fix is coming in early spring instead of winter where it would have been more appreciated.

The latest Tesla models use heat pumps for climate control, a nice improvement in efficiency over the usual resistive heating that most vehicles still rely on. Naturally, an electric car benefits greatly from energy savings as it leaves more battery power for increased range. Charging takes a little longer than filling a gas tank and even with a full battery the range is often less than that of a fossil fuel vehicle. Therefore, every small power reserve is optimized for maximum efficiency.

Volvo latest OTA software update

Volvo’s latest over-the-air (OTA) updates are rolled out to nearly 200,000 cars worldwide and include the latest versions of the XC90, S60 and V60.

We all know that cars are becoming more and more like computers on wheels, with connectivity being the major game and software key, not only to keep the operating system up to date, but also to add “value” with future subscription services.

Many automakers are forging their own path with the operating system, but Volvo decided that harnessing the power of Google Android was the way to go and rolled out Android-based systems for their lineup.

It started with the XC40, followed by the XC60 and the S90 and V90 and now – for 2023 models – the addition of the XC90, S60 and V60, meaning the entire Volvo range is Android-based.

As a result, the latest over-the-air (OTA) update for Volvos is now rolling out to almost 200,000 cars in 34 countries.

The update includes an upgrade to Android 11, new app categories on Google Play, better calibrated weather timers and improved power management.

Henrik Green, Volvo’s Chief Product Officer, said:

By making all Volvo models capable of receiving over-the-air updates, we are making significant progress towards our ambition to improve our customers’ cars every day.

This is an important milestone: we now update cars of all models in the majority of our markets, bringing the benefits of continuous remote updates to an ever-growing number of customers.

It’s good news for Volvo owners that the software in their cars continues to be updated and improved, although the sting in the tail will no doubt be subscription payments to access many features at the future, giving Volvo a whole new potentially hugely lucrative income stream. flow.
