Audi software update adds range to e-tron electric vehicles
Owners of the 2019 or 2020 Audi e-tron integrated have a free software update that will extend their range. The software update adds another 20 kilometers of range, and the updates are available now from Audi service centers. The current Audi e-tron 55 quattro has the updated software as standard.
With the new software installed, the vehicle can travel 441 kilometers with one charge per WLTP cycle. The software update is optimized for economy and also modifies the hardware, resulting in increased battery life. It’s fantastic for owners of previous generation e-tron models that Audi is also offering them the software update.
The software makes several improvements, including expanding the usable capacity of the high voltage battery. With the applied software update, the 95 kWh battery of the Audi e-tron 55 quattro now has a capacity of 86 kWh offering increased range. Audi claims software update supports all e-tron 55 quattro production vehicles built between mid-September 2018 as 2019 model year and late November 2019 as 2020 model year .
If the data is installed free of charge at any Audi service partner. While adding additional useful capacity to the battery, the software also optimizes control of the front electric motor. During normal driving operations, the rear axle motor is responsible for propelling the vehicle.
The front electric motor is “almost completely” disconnected and turned off during normal driving to improve efficiency. Audi says it’s only when more power is required that both engines are used. This change allows the e-tron 55 to be more efficient. Cooling has also been updated to more effectively regulate the temperature of high voltage components. By enabling more efficient cooling, Audi has lowered the volume flow in the coolant circuit, further reducing energy consumption.
