Abolongo escape shows poor security system in Nigeria – Gidamayi
Samson Gidamayi, leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Kauru local government area in Kaduna state, said on Saturday that the escape from Oyo prison exposed the country’s poor security system.
Recall that the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Oyo State Command, confirmed on Saturday a prison break in its establishment.
Olanrewaju Anjorin, the command’s public relations officer, confirmed that 837 inmates awaiting trial escaped from Abolongo Correctional Center in Oyo town when suspected gunmen attacked the facility.
Gidamayi, who currently teaches at the Nigerian Defense Academy, Kaduna noted that the country’s security system has deteriorated to the point that bandits and criminal elements are choosing where to attack available to them.
Speaking to DAILY POST in Kaduna on Saturday night, Gidamayi lamented that nowhere is safe, as long as these criminal elements continue to terrorize humans in every nook and cranny of the country.
According to him, there is no way these criminals escaped from Abolongo prison in Oyo will all return, as the hidden criminals could join their colleagues to continue their nefarious attitudes.
âMy brother, nowhere is safe. I have a personal home somewhere in Kaduna, but I left home due to a security threat. My wife and children were taken to safety. I don’t have a permanent place to sleep
âAt the rate at which criminals are gaining ground, it is evident that no Nigerian is safe. You can be a military officer, a member of the security personnel, the situation is so bad that no one is safe, âhe added.
Every day we hear about security defeating terrorists, but no one sleeps with both eyes closed. “
He advised the federal government to speed up the trials of detainees so that perpetrators and criminals are punished as they deserve.
“If there is a speedy trial and a speedy dispensation from justice, some hardened criminals who have been sentenced to death are wasted, we would not have elements in the criminal mind who will come to defend them by escapes from prison and other forms for them to be released, âhe added.
